Olympus OM-D E5M perfect for the strobist?
Monday, March 5, 2012 at 7:43AM The first day of Focus is over, the OM-D is launched in the UK and my gagging order is off!
The question has to be... "Am I loosing it"???
I most genuinely am becoming more and more compelled by the Olympus system, especially the micro four thirds, I didn't want to and I didn't think I would but its crept up on me and well and truly bit me on the arse... which is great because I usually have to pay for that sort of thing lol ;0)
It does amaze me what the diminutive sensor is capable of but even more so the blinkered bigotry of some larger size sensor owners! These are tools to do a job and surely as long as its capable of what its asked to do, which it is, then that's all that matters...
I will NEVER compromise image quality so that has to be a given, but the logistical advantage to the OM-D is something I'm finding hard to argue against. Is it only me that has got to the end of a days shooting and thought that Ste (my number 1 assistant) has replaced my DSLR and Lens combo with a breeze block, because sometimes that's just what it feels like. Perhaps I'm just getting old!
Bottom line, its a beautifully conceived, fantastically engineered tool... Liberate yourself, cast off the blinkers and go take a look for yourself... be your own man and don't follow the pack ;0)
This was shot on a resent test for the BIG "O" with what is simply becoming my favourite lens, the simply lovely 45mm f1.8. I can't wait to get my hands on the 75mm f1.8 - will I be able to contain myself???

PS: If your going to Focus stop by and say hi ;0)
PPS: Check out the "goose bumps" captured by the "tiny" sensor ;0)

Amazing! It seems like this is a revolution of sorts. A camera small enough for my pants pocket will replace my MkII! I've already picked up my 45mm, as well as the Panny 20/1.7; now I just need my new OM-D to stick 'em on.
Incidentally- in cruising your blog posts & gawking at models, I've been picking up quite a few useful lighting tricks. Thanks much for being so forthcoming with your wisdom.
Not sure it's wisdom mate but thanks anyway... Always happy to share and chat shit about photography ;0)
About 18 monts ago I sold my Leica MP because as much as I still love film, the only way I feel it can compete with digital is drum scanning which is just too expensive on a regular basis. So I had my Nikon, Medium & Large Format, but nothing to just pop in a small bag and wander around with.
Step up Olympus EP3, along with 20mm Panny and 45mm f1.8 which virtually lives on the camera. Lately I thought about replacing the Olympus system with a Fuji X-Pro1 or OMD, so off to Focus last Sunday.
I looked at the Fuji but the viewfinder was a real disappointment and something I could not happily live with. So I then tried the OMD, instantly it felt right with the grips attached, beautiful viewfinder and a decent system already exists, pre-ordered within minutes of handing it back. Can't wait to get it and ASAP the 75mm f1.8. Taken a look at some raw files since, downloaded and adjusted on my system and I am very impressed, As you say I think M43 is now a realistic format and look forward to a fully pro M43 system.
